I am so excited for this post! I have decided to go through a weight loss journey with my blog, and I wanted to do this to show people the real process of losing weight. I know how discouraging it can be to try so hard, and not see immediate results.
Its harder than it sounds to hang in there, but it’s more than worth it.
I have been doing weekly progress posts since the beginning of January, but I have never really disclosed my weight loss journey. My first journey began in 2013. During my freshman year at college, I had a lot of things going on that caused really bad anxiety. I dealt with my problems by sleeping all the time and partying every weekend. Trouble was, I didn’t have the metabolism to deal with my lifestyle. Freshman 15 quickly turned into Freshman 38.
I have an hourglass body type, and it makes it easy for me to gain weight and not notice how much I have actually gained. The weight crept on and without a scale to notify me, I just went on with my life doing the same things.
I finally had to go to the doctor for a checkup and faced a scale for the first time in a year. Last time I had checked, I was a 5 ft 6 in girl weighing 140 pounds. The scale told me I weighed 178.
I was devastated. It was such a wake up call for me to get myself together.
I started by giving up sweets. I still slept all the time, but I tried to make an effort to not eat as bad as I had been. Once it was summer, I started bringing my lunch to work instead of going out to eat.
However, I still wasn’t being very active, I was anxious all the time and my sleep schedule was awful. This is when Schmidt saved me.
I got Schmidt the summer before my sophomore year at college. He taught me to go to bed at a reasonable time and to get up at a reasonable time. He forced me to go outside on short walks everyday, and he made me feel calm and in control.
Once I fixed all of those issues, I slowly took things out of my diet. I quit eating cheese and bread. I eventually became a vegetarian. I lost 31 pounds, and I had never been more proud of myself.
Now fast forward to 2016: I gained about 15 back. I was plateauing, so I wasn’t exactly gaining weight, but I couldn’t lose any either. I had a lot of life changes, like graduating college and moving to Alabama. I wasn’t eating bad, but I wasn’t eating great either. I started making changes, but got discouraged when my weight wasn’t coming off as easily as before.
I started the Mediterranean Diet just before my birthday, and I dropped five pounds.
However, the holidays were around that time, so I just gained all five of them back.
January was when I decided to devote myself to the lifestyle, and I have been working on it ever since. If you are interested on this journey, check out week 1, week 2 and week 3.
So here is my month! I have lost 7 pounds, and I definitely feel it, but it might be hard to see. The first 10 pounds, you notice and then after 15 other people begin to notice.
I will continue to update my process monthly! Let me know if you are on a journey too!
Thanks for reading and keep being strong!
