Hey guys! A am currently moving, and there are so many things that are sketchy when moving out of a rental. Many rental properties will try to screw you out of a deposit, and sometimes, even more. Here are my tips to have a good rental move out experience:
- Stay in constant contact with your landlords. Make sure you know everything they want you to do, and seem like a willing patron. I always ask how they want you to handle nail holes. Some places don’t want you to touch them, others want you to fill them. Make sure you know what your people want. Also, ask about drip pans! Sometimes they will charge you a crazy amount for new ones, but you can get new one for 10 dollars at walmart. Also make sure you know their cleaning standards!
- Clean the rental like your mama is behind you! Clean ceiling fans, baseboards, appliances, and everything else in existence! You don’t want to be charged for a cleaning mishap, it is awful!
- Get a walk through! Have someone walk through the rental with you to make sure it is up to their standards. Also, if they see something that needs more cleaning, you can do it without getting charged.
- Take photos! Take photos of everything in the rental, so you can argue dispute issues afterwards. This is really important. I once had a nice apartment and never had any problems with the managers until I moved out and they tried to charge me 150 for carpet cleaning in a 11 x 12 space. It will happen, and you need to be prepared!
- Turn in everything on time! This includes house keys, mail keys, access cards! The last thing you want is to get charged for being late!
