It’s summertime, and everyone is looking for a way to stay cool, have fun and not spend too much money.
My favorite way to do that is to throw a fun game night for my friends. I love throwing back a drink or two and beating my friends at every game (or at least trying).
Recently, I threw a game night with a new game called Codenames: Deep Undercover. This is a game for adults only, and you need at least four players.
Codenames (the original game) was most recently nominated for the prestigious Spiel des Jahres and the won the Origins Awards for Game of the Year, Best Family Game and Fan Favorite.
This version combines the original gameplay with an adult theme making it perfect for bachelor/bachelorette parties, ladies nights in, or game night at the local bar!
The gameplay remains the same, where each team has a spymaster looking at a key card, gives their team a one-word clue and a number to locate their team’s words.
So after you purchase the game, it’s time to make a signature drink and some snacks! Since we are trying to stay in a budget for an affordable night in, I love to do popcorn mix-ins and sangria!
SANGRIA
1 bottle of red wine (Cabernet or Merlot)
1 orange, sliced in wedges
1 lime, sliced in wedges
1 lemon, sliced in wedges
1 tbsp of sugar
1 shot of gin
1 cup of frozen strawberries
1/2 cup of orange juice
4 cups of ginger ale
Pour the wine into a pitcher. Afterwards, squeeze the fruit into the pitcher and throw in the left over fruit.
Add the rest of the ingredients and serve over ice!
For the popcorn, I just popped some classic movie butter popcorn and grabbed a box of M&M’s, Peanut Butter M&M’s and Milk Duds.
Then, I just set them out, and everyone can make their own bowls!
As for the game, it took a minute to get down all the rules, but it is great if you like word games! The games are quick and fast, so you can easily play multiple games in one night!
What’s your favorite way to enjoy summer on the cheap end?
