Staying healthy during the holidays can be tough – I can barely get out of bed most days. Plus, all the holiday treats are pretty hard to resist (and my family is famous for holiday candy).
I know when I am being super unhealthy, it is easier for my dogs to be unhealthy too. I try to resist feeding them table scraps and junk, but it isn’t always easy.
myPlan Tool
However, with Purina® Pro Plan® products, I have been able to keep an eye on my pups’ health without much effort.
I started by visiting the Purina® myPlan tool. It is super simple to use – you just fill out a few details about your dog (or cat), and the tool gives you a personalized food choice option.
The tool asks you questions such as their age, activity level and body size.
Not only does the tool tell you what makes the food good for you pet, but you can learn so much more at Purina University. This website answers any question you may have, so you know you are making the best and healthiest choice that fits your dogs needs.

PetSmart Trip
After I was matched with food for my dogs, we headed to our local PetSmart to get the nums! My dogs love going to PetSmart – Schmidt used to get so excited he would throw up. Luckily, he has grown out of that issue.
When we go on a dog food run at PetSmart, I always let the dogs pick out a toy of their own. Usually, they pick it our themselves (and it’s usually on the lower shelf)!
PetSmart always has a variety of toys – bones, balls, frisbees and anything you can think of. They have the best options for shampoo and vitamins also!
I also saw tons of cute Christmas toys, so I will let Santa know where to go for their Christmas presents!
This was Fiona’s first trip to PetSmart! She is usually to hyper to go out in public places where she can’t run free, but she has gotten more calmer, so I thought it was time.
I was really proud she didn’t pee herself from excitement.
The Food Choice
We purchased the Purina® Pro Plan® Savor Grain Free in the Beef and Salmon formula. We always look for fish variety in dog food because it is so good for the pups’ coats.
I always like to surprise the doggies with wet food for special holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I also purchased the Pro Plan Savor Beef and Vegetable entree and the Chicken and Vegetable entree.
As I am writing this blog post, Schmidt is cuddling the dog food.
Schmidt’s favorite feature in the Pro Plan Savor is the texture of the kibbles. They have kibbles and tender shredded pieces in the mix.
After receiving my plan, I also chose the grain-free version to up the amount of protein in the formula. I love my dogs like children, and I want them to live long, happy lives. I strongly believe that you should never skip on quality of food for the ones you love, and I love them so much!
My oldest pup, Schmidt, just turned four. Purina Pro Plan also has varieties for older dogs, so after a few years, I can change his dog food to fit his new needs.
The grain free savor food has 32 percent crude protein and 16 percent crude fat – two factors for a healthy, happy pup. This formula is great for two active, crazy Australian Shepherds (especially Fiona, who I strongly believe is ADHD).
BONUS: I have a couple of deals for you guys who want to try it out! In PetSmart stores from 0/30/17 through 12/3/17, you can buy Pro Plan dry dog food 47lb-50lb bags for $49.99.
