When I first saw a commercial for the Maybelline Tattoostudio Brow, I was intrigued. What is better than an eyebrow color that lasts for days?
I am the worst at waiting until the last minute to wake for work – which means I don’t usually have time to do my makeup. The only problem with that is my sparse brows. I feel naked without my Anastasia Brow Dip Pomade.
The pomade is literally my life, as seen below.
So when I saw that this product was supposed to last for days, I knew I had to try it for myself and for my audience. I haven’t blogged about makeup in forever – which is crazy since I started off as a strict beauty blogger.
To preface this review, I love Maybelline products. My favorite drugstore foundation and concealer is their FitMe line, and I love most of their mascaras.
THE PRODUCT
When I purchased the Maybelline Tattoostudio Brow at H-E-B, I bought the dark brown color. I have noticed that my eyebrows are so ashy, that anything warm or medium makes them look orange.
They have four shades to chose from, so there are lighter colors!
The applicator is a doe foot – which I was immediately not a fan of because I love a well-defined eyebrow. It’s really hard to do that with a doe-foot applicator.
The color was right on for my eyebrow, and I did like the consistency.
THE EXPERIMENT
I started with clean, plucked eyebrows. Yeah, they are pretty sparse. It is the burden I bear.
The instructions for the product was the following:
Step 1. Use sculpting tip to fill mid-brow and tail, moving outwards.
Step 2. Lightly fill in inner brow.
Step 3. Blend using grooming spoolie.
Step 4. Allow time to dry.
I immediately thought this was too dark and not defined. Maybelline suggests you use their precise brow pen – I am telling you this is not a suggestion. I am not pumped so far.
After I did both eyebrows, I was even less impressed. I had two wooly caterpillars on my hands, and it was not cute.
Plus, the product smeared all over my face.
Since this was supposed to last a few days, I went after it with a cotton swab and micellar water.
I liked it better after the micellar water, but I was still not sold. I really don’t want to go out with my brows like this.
I caved and lined it with my dip brow pomade. My eyeshadow is from the Colourpop collection at Ulta!
I like this look MUCH MUCH better.
Now, I am sure you are wondering how it held up. After the first night, I thought it came completely off when I took my make-up off.
But after I looked at my first photo, I feel like the product stayed on a little bit. It definitely did better than I thought.
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you have sparse eyebrows, I would skip this and buy the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade.
However, if you have fuller, well-defined eyebrows, you might want to give it a try. It would probably give you that little bit of tint you need!
What is your favorite eyebrow product?
