Something new I have discovered about myself is how much cooking soothes me. Not only does cooking soothe me, but watching cooking soothes me.
I have always loved Chopped, but some of the new tv series on Netflix have really changed my outlook on cooking. I find myself picking better ingredients and using better techniques every day.
So if you are looking for some feel-good TV or you are just a foodie, these 5 cooking TV series are perfect for you!
Ugly Delicious
Ugly Delicious was the TV series that changed how I viewed food. The host gets on my nerves sometimes, but the overall show is so insightful. For instance, I never knew how strict Italians were on how their food is prepared.
I grew up in the south (or Texas) where you just throw some stuff in a pot until it tastes good. Italians were extremely specific. I also learned about an amazing barbecue place that is a road trip from where I live, so I will be checking it out!
The Great British Baking Show
The Great British Baking Show was the show that soothed my anxiety. Everyone on the show is extremely pleasant, and the hosts are so adorably silly.
I also love the judges – Mary Berry is a genius. I also thought I was a baker until I watched this – then I realized I am an idiot. There are so many different types of cakes (or sponges) and cookies (or biscuits).
This show is great if you want to relax and feel happy!
Nailed It
So the shows above taught me how to cook, and this show taught me that I am better than I think.
Nailed It focuses on Pinterest fails – and their host (formerly on Girl Code) is hilarious. This show will make you want to decorate a cake – because chances are you can do it better than this group.
The Big Family Cooking Showdown
After you fall in love with the Great British Baking Show, start watching The Big Family Cooking Showdown (hint, there will be a familiar face).
This show also showed me that my family is not the great cooks I thought we were. None of us know how to make pasta – Ill tell you that much!
Cooked
When I was in college, I was required to read the Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollen. Therefore, when I discovered he had a Netflix series, I had to watch it.
Cooked is an interesting look at how food is created. Highlighting our primal human need to cook, the series urges a return to the kitchen to reclaim our lost traditions and to forge a deeper, more meaningful connection to the ingredients and cooking techniques that we use to nourish ourselves.
