Sunday morning I woke up, and I wanted breakfast. As much as I love breakfast, I am never hungry in the morning.
I woke Courtney up so we could seize this rare moment.
Our initial plan was to go to another cafe, but since it was Father’s Day, it was closed. After a bit of Russian roulette on Yelp, I discovered Courtney had never been to Tesla’s Cafe and Coffee Pub.
Tesla’s is fairly new to Waco, and it is located in a historic home on Washington Ave. near downtown Waco. Before this experience, I had only been once for lunch, and I loved it.
When I lived in Denton, I became accustomed to businesses being in old houses. It was one of my favorite things about living there. I was so happy when Tesla’s opened up because of that reason.
The first time I went, my friends and I tried a few appetizers, and there was nothing we didn’t like. Plus the atmosphere is so classic and trendy.
As for their breakfast menu, I was torn between the classic biscuits and gravy or their special, banana nut pancakes.
I was in a more savory mood, so I went with the biscuits and gravy with potatoes on the side. The potatoes were unlike anything I had had before. They tasted like scalloped potatoes, but without the cheese. It was so different and delicious.
I also had their Columbian brew, which was served in the classic Tesla way – a milk jug, camping style mug and a little jar of sugar. They also have mimosas – so this is a great place to get brunch if you are in Waco.
It was such a pleasant experience, and it was the perfect way to end the week.
