I have been doing this blog since 2014, and every year, I freak out about all the fun fall content. I am obsessed with fall (my obsession is almost repulsive).
Aside from all the fun DIYs and recipes (and pumpkins, lots of pumpkins), I also have to get my actual home ready for fall. I have learned a lot from the last two years of being a homeowner.
For example, leaves are the devil, and rakes are out to get you.
I have learned that if I do the following 6 things right before the season starts, it helps me prepare for everything else. Plus, it just feels right to start the season on the right foot.
Here are 6 things you can do today to prepare your home for the fall season:
Clean the fridge
It might just be me, but summer brings out the nastiness in my fridge. Whether the mess is from popsicles, watermelon or avocado, my fridge needs a deep cleaning at the end of the summer.
This is also a great time to get rid of expired products, food you don’t like and things that have spilled everywhere. I always find new ways to organize everything also.
Ignore the fact that my fridge light does not work. This is a work in progress.
Pick up leaves and trash
In Texas, leaves fall immediately. We do not get to see leaves change colors, just leaves scattered all over our lawns.
This means fall outside tidying comes early. Over the summer, I also do a lot of grilling and sometimes trash gets away from me. So before you even start raking leaves, make sure you get all the trash that has accumulated over the summer.
Check smoke detectors
Fires are always a possibility, despite the weather. However, the risk goes up when you begin to use space heaters. Be sure to check all the smoke detectors in your home and make sure they are functional.
Clean out your HVAC system
I have two fluffy dogs, and their dog hair rules my life. I use FilterEasy, so I know my filter is always good, but the dog hair still creeps up in there.
Reward your HVAC system for it’s hard work this summer by cleaning it out! Make sure the filters are clean and the drip pans!
Clean windows
Summer means bugs. It is literally one of the reasons I don’t like summer. And what to bugs do? They crash into windows.
One of the best ways to get ready for fall is by cleaning your windows. This will also let in more natural light.
Clean outdoor furniture
Your outdoor furniture needs some love after hosting all the BBQs over the summer. Give everything a wipe down, and it will be as good as new.
