I have finally embraced the label of millennial – I am always busy, I love pumpkin-flavored things and I am obsessed with the internet.
With my careers, I am always on the go. And I am embarrassed to say that sometimes I do not hydrate. There are times where I go an entire day without hydrating.
Don’t get me wrong, staying hydrated is so important to me. I have app reminders, and I can always tell when I am dehydrated.
When I forget to drink water, so many things happen to my body that are instantly changed when I remember to bring my water bottle with me everywhere.
The Mayo Clinic recommends consuming 6.3 cups of water per day – but most people only consume 2.5 cups. My favorite water to bring along with me is smartwater®. It is nice to be able to open my purse and find my smartwater® within arms reach. Keeping water within eyesight helps me remember to drink it!
I also like to keep POWERADE ZERO™ Mixed Berry 32 oz at my desk for electrolytes! This is my go-to for when I am working out or going on a hike.
And I can get them both at Target!
Here are just a few of the changes I notice when I keep my goals to stay hydrated:
MY SKIN LOOKS GORGEOUS
The first sign that I have been drinking enough water is my skin. My skin begins to glow when it is properly hydrated. Basically, when I am drinking the recommended amount of water, I don’t really need lotion, and I glow like a Greek goddess.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, when I haven’t been drinking water, I can instantly tell in my face. My skin looks translucent. When I taught Kindergarten, my kids would tell me I looked like a zombie on these days (but they called me a princess on days I hydrated). True story.
I HAVE MORE ENERGY THAN THE SUN
If you lived with me, you would probably want to shake me and tell me to quit moving for one second. When I am focusing on my health and staying hydrated, my energy levels are through the roof. I wouldn’t be able to do Blogtober without energy – and smartwater® is my savior!
When I forget to drink water (it happens a lot), I live for naps (who am I kidding, I always live for naps). I will get home and collapse on the couch watching reruns.
I HAVE LESS HEADACHES
My family has a history of migraines, and while I am not saying that staying hydrated keeps them at bay, I definitely have less of them when I am remembering to drink water.
I still have headaches every time the weather shifts, but at least there are more headache free days in between.
I CAN WORK OUT LONGER
When I am not drinking water, I notice that I get really exhausted while working out – even if I am just walking a couple of miles. Drinking my quota stretches my endurance and keeps me working!
FOCUSING IS A BREEZE
So, did I mention I have two jobs? I am a blogger and a digital content manager at a news station. I have to balance creative, fun content with sad, dark content on a daily basis. In fact, the day I am writing this, I have just returned home from covering multiple tornado watches.
How do I focus? Honest answer: Sometimes I don’t. I have to keep a list of all the things I need to do to keep track. If I drop the ball on one thing, my livelihood is on the line.
When I am eating right, drinking enough water and exercising, my brain is on high power mode. I am able to manage my team, help my supervisors, find great content, stay social with my blog and write blog posts that you guys care about.
Why do you stay hydrated?
