When I bought my house, there was a lot of quirks I had to tackle. For instance, the previous owner used one of the hall closets as a pantry.
I definitely wanted my food to be in the kitchen, so I stopped that immediately and used it as a linen closet. And by use it as a linen closet, I mean threw all my sheets and blankets in there like a monster.
Pinterest always shows me gorgeous linen closets, and I always wanted mine to look the same. When we redid the closets in the spare bedrooms, I even kept the wallpaper for a future project with the linen closet.
Fast-forward a year later, the roll of wallpaper still sat in the closet, wasting away. I finally got fed up and redid the damn thing.
So if you are looking to spruce up your linen closet, here is how I did it in one day:
BEFORE YOU START SHOPPING
Before I went shopping, I looked at what was in my linen closet, and I thought about what I wanted to add.
For starters, I knew I wanted to just keep my white and grey bedding and dispose of any thing else. I also have a habit of keeping the plastic bags my bedding comes in – so that also had to go. They were just causing clutter.
After this. I realized I only had two pairs of sheets, so I wanted to get more. I sleep with two dogs, and I have to wash sheets all the time because of dog hair.
But honestly, I also wanted to add sheets, so my closet would look good. Sue me (but also you can never have too many sheets).
After researching aesthetically pleasing linen closets, I knew I wanted to use this space for storing extra cleaning supplies, candles, toilet paper, paper towel and table linens, along with my bedding.
I knew I needed baskets and sheets, and I knew I had paint and wallpaper to spruce up the space.
AT THE STORE
I started by heading to our local Marshall’s to buy identical baskets. I had measured the closet beforehand and brought a measuring tape with me to make sure everything would fit.
At Marshall’s, I ended up buying three matching baskets, a metal basket, and a small, circle metal basket.
The larger baskets would hold my blankets and sheets, and the smaller baskets were for toilet paper and cleaning rags. I already had two plastic bins in my closet, so I was going to put lightbulbs and excess table linens in there.
I also found some great deals on sheets!
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
The closet was very dingy, and someone had colored it with crayon at some point in time. I painted the walls white and the edges of the shelves. I also painted underneath the shelves.
I used the wallpaper to line the top of the shelves (click here for a tutorial), and then I added all the baskets and linens.
I am so proud of the finished project. My sister makes fun of my because I actually open the closet door and just stare at it.
What is a project you have been dying to do?
