My Australian Shepherds, Schmidt and Fiona, make my day better – every day. They are my little champions.
When I have a bad day at work, I can count on them to make me smile. When I am feeling down and feeling sorry for myself, they help pull me up. It’s amazing how dogs can affect your mood and your life.
They are always there for you – when you move, when you make a career change, when you have a break up, and even when you feel defeated on the floor because you can’t put together a lawn mower (personal experience). They are the champions of my every day.
One of our favorite activities to do together is to watch the Westminster Dog Show. Fiona might bark at the TV the entire time, but we still love watching it.
While I don’t think Fiona could ever behave enough to enter the Westminster Dog Show, I still think both of my pups are winners even without the title. Schmidt certainly looks regal enough.
To prove it, I listed 5 ways all dogs are champions every single day:
THEY PROVIDE MORNING CUDDLES FOR A BETTER START TO THE DAY
If you are a dog owner, think back to when you would wake up to start the day without a dog. Where were the cuddles? What did you do without the cuddles? How did you manage without the cuddles?
A morning without some love from my dogs seems like a sad morning to me. Every morning, I know my dogs will be there to welcome me to the day.
Their snuggles are a relaxing way to wake up – and they put me in a good mood to start my day. There is no “wrong side of the bed” when you wake up with dogs. Unless, they had an accident overnight – that’s a different story.
THEY TEACH ME ABOUT NUTRITION
I love my dogs, and I want them to live a long and healthy life. They are already very active – so it’s my job to make sure they are getting the nutrients they need. I have learned so much about the value of macros and ingredients just through feeding my dogs.
Purina® is a sponsor of the Westminster Dog Show, and the last 11 or 12 Westminster Best in Show Champions were fueled by Purina® Pro Plan®. If show dogs eat Purina® Pro Plan®, I looked into it for my dogs.
One thing I love about Purina® products is that they are backed by 85+ years of Purina® research from 500+ scientists. And Purina® is the first dry dog food brand to list real meat at the 1st ingredient.
My dogs eat Purina® Pro Plan® Savor® and Focus®. Schmidt eats Purina® Pro Plan® Focus® because he is older and has a sensitive stomach. It is formulated with key nutrients to support specific nutritional needs based on life stage, lifestyle, breed size or other unique needs.
My baby girl Fiona eats Purina® Pro Plan® Savor®. I love the Purina® Pro Plan® Savor® because it’s 14 dry formulas with live probiotics that support digestive health. She needs a healthy gut because she is always trying to get into things.
The Purina® Pro Plan® line can be found at Petsmart – and they have such a huge selection. When we go shopping, I always get a Purina® Pro Plan® wet dog food can for both dogs as a special treat. They love dog food shopping day.
I love doing my dog food shopping at Petsmart because I can get everything there! Toys, medication and other pet necessities are available, so it is a one stop shop. Plus, Petmart has Banfield, my dogs’ veterinarian!
I don’t know about you, but I like to get all of my shopping done in one quick swoop because I am a busy lady.
Check out the link here for Purina® Pro Plan® offers and bracket info. You can even get up to $3 OFF a 35-lb. bag of Pro Plan® Savor® Chicken & Rice Formula between 12/31/18 – 3/3/19.
THEY KEEP THE FAMILY ACTIVE
Schmidt and Fiona love to explore and go on hikes, so they keep me active. If they haven’t been on a hike for too long, they start to overfill with anxiety.
I haven’t actually seen Fiona bounce on walls yet, but I have seen her bounce off a fence.
Their need to be active pushes me to be active – so it’s a win-win situation. Just another way they are looking out for me every day.
TOY TIME IS THERAPY TIME
My dogs love toys – especially playing tug of war, or tug as well call it in my house. Schmidt is the king of tug and will dangle a toy in front of you to try to make you play with him.
Warning, there are no rules in Tug, and Schmidt is very serious about the sport.
When I get in the floor and play Tug with my dogs, it is really stress releasing. It is just me and the dogs, and it is just a little moment in my day that I don’t have any worries.
DOGS DON’T LET YOU BINGE WATCH ALONE (OR EAT ALONE. OR PEE ALONE)
I love streaming TV and watching the Westminster Dog Show, and I definitely talk at the TV and laugh loudly. With dogs, you feel like at least you are laughing with someone (or freaking out because the border collie is so cute with someone).
Fiona loves TV more than I do, so it’s always a blast. She usually just grows at everything on the screen, while I enjoy a soda and a snack (usually a dog-friendly snack that we can share).
Dogs never let you feel alone. They are literally always there – I don’t think I have used the bathroom alone in my house for years.
After reading this post, I hope you look at your pet and see a champion. Your dog doesn’t need a fancy title to be your partner in winning every single day.
