How to add style to a teenage boy’s bedroom (and keep it smelling fresh)

There is no denying this. I am incredibly sensitive to bad smells, so I genuinely get irritable if something smells bad. Now, I am bringing this up because I have a new “roommate” – a.k.a my 19-year-old brother. His room has a distinct odor despite the fact that he keeps his room somewhat tidy. I primarily blame his sweaty gym habit, but nonetheless, his room stinks. And, I am also a home decor blogger, and I have been bugging him that his room needs some type of decor to match the rest of my house. I love having a house with style and his room needed to get with the program.

FIXING THE SMELL

FIXING THE DECOR

My brother had a small budget so we looked at his room and decided the priorities were finding a better solution to a TV stand, adding wall hangings and sprucing up his bedding without changing his comforter. He wanted to keep the gray in his room and wanted it to stay relatively plain and masculine.

I wanted to incorporate some natural elements like wood, so we ended up buying a wood TV stand and a wooden clock. We hung the clock above his bed so that when you walked into the room it drew your eyes upward and made the space more appealing.

We were able to organize his gaming items in the new TV stand and store his college textbooks too. The area above his TV looked empty, so we drew some simple icons on a white piece of paper and put them in frames that were hanging around my house. 

As for his bed, the key is to how you make it. He was just throwing everything on his bad, creating a flat, boring landscape. We bought two white euro pillows to add some height to his bed, and then I taught him how to make his bed using hospital corners. This really helped elevate the look of his existing bedding, and I like to fold the bedding back to reveal the white sheet. I think this helps a room look clean which matched the linen scent from the Renuzit® Snuggle®!

He also had all of his toiletries sitting all on his nightstand. Using a simple tray, we organized his deodorant and cologne so that it almost looked like decor. We also put some cool wooden trinkets he had on his dresser for display too!

These simple things added so much more style to his room! And the simple act of adding Renuzit® Snuggle® to his room totally change how the space smelled.
