Recently, one of my close friends got hitched, and I got the pleasure of planning her bachelorette party. We decided to take a girls’ trip to check out some of the wineries in Fredericksburg, TX.
Fredericksburg is located in the hill country in Texas – arguably the most beautiful part of the state.
There are over 100 wineries stretched along one highway, so the hardest part was picking which ones to go to. Highway 290 is basically the place to be if you are a winery in Texas.
Fredericksburg also has an adorable main street full of homemade jams, sauces, spices and more. And even better? The area is open container – meaning you can walk around and sip your wine.
THE STAY
We stayed at an AirBnB extremely close to Main St. – and even closer to the Karaoke bar! The place was called Forty Winks, and our host, Emily, thought of everything.
The sheets literally smelled so good that I went into the laundry room and took photos of what she used.
We also had baggies and shirts for all the girls who came to spend the weekend with the bride.
WHAT TO DO (BESIDES WINERIES)
We spent the first night at a place called Buc’s – which is full of karaoke and dancing. It was a lot of fun, just make sure you go into it ready to bring the party.
On the first day, we also ate at Mamacita’s Mexican Food. The food came in huge portions, and the Margaritas were great.
As for the second day, we showed our age by sleeping after the wine tour (more on that later), but Main Street is still the place to be for shopping and snacking.
THE WINE TOUR
Now, if you go to Fredericksburg, you have to use Off The Vine Wine Tours. We had an amazing experience, and the owner, Aaron, was extremely helpful.
Like I said before, there are HUNDREDS of wineries in Fredericksburg, and it’s hard to choose where to go. Aaron gave us a comprehensive list of the ones that fly under the radar that are very good.
He let us know which ones had Texas wines, views – and one had pizza.
We chose to go one a three wine tour with stops at Texas Heritage, 290 Wine Castle and William Chris Vineyards. Our driver, Alan, brought us a meat and cheese plate to every stop in the tour, and we rode in a limo.
Texas Heritage had an amazing view and the best fall sangria I have ever had in my life. I stole the recipe, and I might share it with you in a future blog post.
We also had a magical moment there – our bride was talking about the wedding, and a woman walked over. She told us that her anniversary is that day, and proceeded to educate us about love and happiness.
Needless to say, we were all moved.
William Chris was gorgeous and great for photos, and the Wine Castle was an actual castle – with pizza. It was amazing.
I am so grateful for Aaron’s list because I would have probably only gone to the really big wineries and missed out on all the magic!
