Thank you Hartz® for sponsoring this post. Hartz Dog Diapers and Male Wraps provide superior comfort and fit for leak-proof protection!
When I first got Schmidt in college, I learned all about doggies and their uncontrollable bladder issues. Yes, he was an excited pee-er.
Schmidt would always sprinkle a little bit when someone came in the door – or even if he thought he heard someone coming. He is now 6, so that’s not a problem anymore with him, but lucky for me, I got another Aussie.
Fiona also has the same problem. She is 3, and she still “excited-pees” every once in a while.
Okay, so every time someone comes to our door.
If you have the same issue with an excited pee-er, there are a few things that you can do to try to control it.
Diapers
The first thing you can do is invest in some doggie diapers. The best diapers I have found are Hartz® Dog Diapers, and they are so easy to use.
They come in two different designs, and they don’t hurt your pet! They velcro on and off without tugging on fur.
The diapers are highly absorbent and are made with FlashDry® Gel technology, which instantly turns urine into gel for up to 6 hours of leak-proof protection.
You can find the diapers on Amazon.
Multiple Potty Breaks
This one may seem obvious, but when you know something exciting is happening, up the potty breaks. I would take my dogs out multiple times before the event.
I am talking every 30 minutes and a long trip to the dog park.
Limit water
If you are having a visitor early in the day, try removing their water source overnight. This keeps them from fueling up their bladders for accidents later in the day.
However, after the event, be sure they have enough water!
Training
If you believe this is a training issue, be sure to give your pet praise when they potty outside.
You can buy training treats and bring them with you on walks. Every time they go outside, throw them a show.
During their show, stop what you are doing. Let them know they are the absolute bestest and smartest pup in the world and give them a treat
