If you have been following me on Instagram, I have recently moved from little Waco, TX to Austin, TX. While I am loving the new digs, things are just a little more pricey here.
I am itching to start traveling again once we are able to, and I am really focused on savings throughout the end of this pandemic. When I looked at things I could cut back on, coffee was a clear option.
My love for coffee did not damper in the pandemic, that’s for sure.
And as much as I love a good drip coffee with a smidge of half and half, I love a latte to perk me up in the morning. I had tried making my own with regular coffee, and I was gifted the Ninja coffee bar – but nothing quite stacked up.
Last year for Christmas, I bought my sister an espresso machine because she, like me, has a coffee addiction. She just specifically likes iced espresso.
During the pandemic, I had been playing with it, and I was able to make coffee that competed with Starbucks for a fraction of the price.
So when I moved into my new apartment, I had to purchase one of my own.
Pros of owning an espresso machine
The obvious pro is that you can make quality coffee drinks at home. The possibilities are endless, and the coffee is strong. Be sure to read lots of reviews before you make a purchase, however! There are some machines that are known for not making a strong cup.
On average, I save about $30 a week on coffee with the espresso machine. Don’t get me wrong, I still love trying out coffee shops, but I try to limit it to once a week.
Another thing I love about making my own coffee is I am in charge of what goes in it. I can make sure I am not getting added sugar or anything else I don’t want.
Cons of making your own coffee
Dishes. There are so many dishes that come along with owning an espresso machine. What I like about my machine is I can put a coffee cup in to get a 2-shot of espresso, but some of the other machines require you to dirty an espresso cup and then add it to a mug.
But then you also have the frothing cup and spoons and etc. I also hate cleaning out the espresso grounds.
Maybe I am just a little lazy, but all the steps sometimes makes me just grab my coffee press to avoid the hassle.
Gevi and Delongi Espresso Machine
During my research, I found a lot of good reviews behind Gevi and Delongi.
My espresso machine, Gevi Espresso Machine 20-Bar Latte Cappuccino Maker with Frother, is currently out of stock. However, the brands Gevi and Delongi have great reviews and lots of options.
Courtney’s espresso machine is the De’Longhi 15 bar Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker, and it is available. And if you like the slim design, Gevi has an alternative to mine.
