The itch to run outside and do something while the sun is out in Austin is a real thing, and breweries like Jester King are a great place to get a little sunshine with friends.
When you don’t have the motivation to drive all the way to Fredericksburg for some solace at a winery, Jester King is in southwest Austin, and it has enough space to give you the vibe you are looking for.
This farmhouse brewery has a little bit of everything. It’s a venue, lodge, place to grab pizza and barbecue, home of some great sour ales and wine – and most recently, they have been serving some incredible cocktails.
And let’s not forget the infamous Jester King goat experience and the onsite farm trail that is perfect for walking off your beer belly (or pizza belly).
During my visit, I tried the La Vie en Rose – and it was one of the best sour beers I have had in a long time. This farmhouse ale has been aged from raspberries, and it has a very bright pink color.
My friends tried the Cherry Wine, which was very interesting, but I loved my beer more. We snacked on pepperoni pizza – and I had to try the “Ted Lasso” cookies. I don’t know what the ones in the show tastes like, but these were almondy, soft, and delicious.
I also had to try a cocktail, so I went with the Vaca Luna – a drink made with white rum, fresh lime and grapefruit juices simple syrup.
And of course, we were able to watch the goats. The baby goats were the highlight of the afternoon, and if you want to go in and actually hang with the goats, it’s an easy $10.
There were tons of families at the brewery, and they had a place for kids to hang and play. It was a perfect place to spend our Sunday Funday.
