Spring cleaning is in full effect in my household, and after an overhaul of the bathroom, we are moving on to my master closet.
There are a lot of quirks in my fixer-upper house. Personally, one of the most annoying quirks is that I have two doors to a closet that is barely considered a walk-in. The big plan is to eventually wall one of those entrances off.
But for today’s post, we are just worried about organization.
Before we tackled the closet, my sweaters were overflowing in my dresser, And in my closet, my pants were destroying all of my hangers. My shoes were also all over the place, and I wanted to move my suitcases to the top of my closet, but my boots were there.
Here are some before photos:
GETTING SUPPLIES
My sister and I started off by searching for something to put my heavy sweaters in. They were always crowded in my cabinet. One of the first things I learned after reading a ton of organization books is that if something looks crowded, it needs to be reorganized or trimmed down.
I didn’t want to get rid of enough sweaters to make space look less crowded. This meant I was off to find a storage solution.
Living in Texas, I don’t have a ton of heavy sweaters, so the container didn’t need to be huge – it just needed to be practical. After doing some research, I fell in love with wire basket storage solutions.
The basket fit perfectly in the corner of my closet:
The next issue we had to figure out was how to store my pants. My pants were tearing up my hangers and taking way to much space.
I also wanted to empty out some space in my dresser where I kept my shorts and skirts – so we set off to find something that could hold all of that. We needed to make sure whatever we used, it was still functional.
We decided on a 6-panel soft hanging closet organizer (click on the photo for details).
GETTING THE CLOSET ORGANIZED
My sister is actually the queen of organizing closets.
She organized my closet by season and color-coded it. Sweaters and long-sleeves are at one end, while my crop tops are at the other.
As for my shoes, we consolidated them into one spot to make room for my luggage.
With this, it opens up my front hall closet to be transformed into a linen closet – and it leaves me two empty drawers in my dresser for organizing!
What room in your house are you looking forward to organizing?
