If you love throwing cookouts like I do, you know it’s so much more fun when you can decorate! I love inviting people over, preparing a great meal and relaxing after a long week at work.
Aside from my growing landscaping hobby, I don’t ever do much to decorate for my cookouts. I never can find anything I like, and everything always seems too expensive.
However, I decided to make these cute hand-stamped cloth napkins that can be used as decorations or a placemat.
My mother always created stamped crafts when I was younger, so I decided to follow in her footsteps. I used things from my house, so this project only cost $10 (the price of 6 napkins at World Market).
I loved the idea of painting peaches and watermelons – but if you have a personal favorite summer fruit, create a stamp to fit your needs!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Sponges
Scissors
Thin paintbrush
Cloth napkins
Fabric paint (I used acrylic because it’s what I had on hand)
GET CREATING
First, you will need to create your stamps. I made a stamp for my watermelon and for my peaches.
It is as easy as grabbing your sponge, drawing your shape and cutting it out with scissors. I used sponges with a scrubbing side because it is what I had on hand. However, I suggest using a plain sponge because it is easier to cut through, but use whatever you have!
Then, lay out your napkin on cardboard (don’t skip this step like I did, or you will have a printed table). When I started stamping, I wanted it to look purposely messy, so I tried not to do a perfect pattern. The great thing about this craft is it is all up to you!
I added the watermelon seeds with a sharpie, and I used a thin paintbrush to create the leaves for the peaches.
What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?
